International volunteer assistance to sustainable development projects

2016 : support on a pig breeding project - Cameroun

Support in Yaoundé suburb for a Cameroonian GIC - “Common Initiative Group” - and emergence of a pig industry

Since the beginning of 2014 AVe support the developpement of a pig farming, real challenge as not only the breeding scale has to be increased, (from 30 to 100 breeder/fattener sows) but also breeding management must be improved. All this is taking place in the very specific sub-Saharan Afica context.

AVEXPERTS - Cameroun - Yaoundé

For this long-term project, AVe has provided several senior volunteer experts to the GIC :

  • a senior agro-economist for the project global approach
  • specialists of breeding buildingsfor pig production and of breeding management, who intervene upon request.

At the beginning of 2017, we are halfway towards the target. We are optimistic about this project’s success, as a cooperative of about fifteen pig producers from Center Cameroon has just been set up.

Thus a real pig industry is seeing the light and all the conditions are met to satisfy the local pig meat demand thanks to the local production.
