September 2025: pig farming training mission in Ivory Coast

On the initiative of MIRAH, technical and economic training for 23 pig farmers by two AVe experts

This training was organized by Ms. Monique Gueu, coordinator of the PROPORC program at the Ministry of Livestock of Ivory Coast.

The aim of this training was to introduce around 20 farmers to the fundamentals of pig farming, led by Bernard, an AVe expert specializing in pigs, and to the basics of farm management, led by Denis, an AVe expert specializing in business management.
On the first day of their stay in Ivory coast, the AVe experts spent an hour talking with the Chief of Staff of the Minister of MIRAH (Ministry of Animal and Fisheries Resources). Discussions focused on the situation of the Ivorian pig industry: its weaknesses, the situation following the African swine fever (ASF) outbreak, and the preventive measures already taken.
This five-day training course took place in Agboville. The 23 farmers who participated had all previously received purebred or crossbred breeding pigs from the Agboville breeding farm (under the MIRAH), which was populated in October 2023 with high-genetic-value breeding pigs from the French company AXIOM.
To enable these farmers to implement the fundamentals of biosecurity, feeding, and livestock management on their farms, Bernard drew on numerous videos and photos taken during visits to African farms. Denis taught them about the economic management of a farm: accounting concepts, income statements, etc., all through a series of practical exercises based on workshop creation projects.

The outcome of this training was very positive for all stakeholders: trainees, organizers, and trainers.
